our story

My sweet boy and I were playing in bed one evening when I said the infamous line in my first book. I remember thinking that it would make a cute children’s book and here we are.

Years ago someone had spoken over me that I would be an author. I didn’t give it much thought at that time, but it’s been beautiful to see God’s faithfulness in this way.

I have a few other book ideas that will hopefully come to fruition through Little Eyes over time.

author:
mikayla herrick

Mikayla is an author and photographer living in Seattle with her husband, Brice, and their two boys, Mace and Jude. Together they have a thing for humankind, design, good food, and travel.

More importantly than her literary and artistic pursuits, Mikayla deeply enjoys motherhood, fostering a nurturing environment that cultivates emotional well-being, resilience, and intentional living.

She spends most of her days chasing her boys around neighborhood parks, encouraging their curiosity through being outdoors, reading, and simple daily errands.

illustrator:
hanna peterson

Hanna is originally from the middle of Sweden in Dalarna but has been living on the west coast in Gothenburg for many years. There, she completed both her bachelor's and master's degrees in design and has since worked with various forms of art, textiles, and fashion design.

Her favorite medium for painting is gouache, and she enjoys exploring the intersection between the abstract and the figurative in her motifs. In this approach, certain details are left for the observer to interpret.

Hanna finds it particularly interesting when her paintings are used for various purposes and formats, such as prints or patterns for clothing and interior design, incorporated into textiles, or, as in this case, featured in a book.

What brings Hanna joy is seeing her paintings transformed into something that can be appreciated and utilized for a long time.
